SEPTEMBER 2025 NEWSLETTER: UPDATES FROM THE INDEPENDENT DRIVERS GUILD

New York Drivers Stand Up for Parking and Bathroom Access!

Thank you to the Independent Drivers Guild members who gathered on the steps of City Hall with New York City Council Member Justin Brannan and co-sponsoring council members to demand action on the urgent need for rideshare driver parking. Together, we raised our voices for Intro #1000, the bill that would finally allow Uber and Lyft drivers to use commercial parking spots for short breaks. Drivers held signs reading “Breaks Are a Right, Not a Luxury” and shared powerful testimonies about the daily struggle to find a safe, legal place to stop for restrooms, meals, prayer breaks, or just to rest.

We are grateful to every driver who showed up and stood together to fight for this critical legislation. Your presence sent a clear message: New York’s rideshare drivers keep this city moving, and we deserve dignity, health, and safety on the job.

IDG New Jersey Members: Join Our Meeting on September 27 to Discuss How We Fight Waymo and Keep Our Jobs

New Jersey Drivers! We need your support to stop Waymo in its tracks. Waymo is already testing driverless cars in Jersey City and Hoboken. That means fewer jobs and more danger on our streets — unless we act.

On Saturday, September 27, the Independent Drivers Guild is holding an emergency meeting to organize a response — and we need you there. See you soon!

Halfway to Our Goal! Say No to Driverless Vehicles in New York

New York City is one of the most complex and densely populated urban environments in the world. Every day, our streets are full of life—families walking to school, cyclists and delivery workers navigating traffic, seniors crossing intersections, and people with disabilities getting where they need to go. Driverless cars pose a threat to all of us on New York’s streets.

We are over halfway to our signature goal. Please sign and share with your friends, family, and coworkers.

Add your name to demand an immediate halt to Waymo’s self-driving car testing in NYC and all autonomous vehicle testing in NYC, and a full ban on autonomous vehicles doing business in New York State.

New Jersey Drivers: Stop Driverless Vehicles from Testing Here

Waymo’s driverless cars are already testing on the streets of Jersey City and Hoboken, and we’re running out of time to stop them. New Jersey is one of the most complex driving environments in the country. Driverless cars have no place on our streets. In cities like San Francisco and Phoenix, these vehicles have already blocked ambulances, caused accidents, and made chaotic stops in traffic.

Add your name to demand an immediate halt all autonomous vehicle testing in New Jersey and a full ban on autonomous vehicles doing business in our state.
